Several professional, technical, and standards organizations serve the acoustical community as the sole interest of the organization of a segment of it.

The National Council of Acoustical Consultants [NCAC] is an international professional association of acoustical consulting firms with technically competent leadership adhering to a canon of ethics.

The Acoustical Society of America (ASA) is an international technical society covering all aspects of Acoustics which has been Helping Acousticians exchange theoretical and applied knowledge since 1929.  ASA has fourteen specialty committees of which two are those on Architectural Acoustics and Noise.  ASA serves as secretariat for preparation of ANSI standards on Acoustics and Noise.

The Institute of Noise Control Engineering - USA (INCE-USA) is a technical society whose primary purpose is to promote, through its members, noise control solutions to environmental, product, machinery, industrial and other noise problems.  INCE-USA and ASA are members of the International INCE.

The Audio Engineering Society promotes the science and practice of audio by bringing leading people and ideas together.

The ASHRAE Technical Committee 2.6 on Sound and Vibration is concerned with the fundamental principles of sound and vibration, particularly as applied to the design and performance of the built environment.

ASTM International Standards Committee E33 on Building and Environmental Acoustics develops standards on the testing, rating, and specification of characteristics and performance of materials, products, systems and services relating to the acoustical environment.

The American Industrial Hygiene Association (AIHA) Noise Committee provides a forum for disseminating and exchanging ideas and information about the effects of exposure to noise and vibration, the control thereof, and methods of hearing conservation.

The National Hearing Conservation Association (NHCA) strives to prevent hearing loss due to noise and other environmental factors in all sectors of society.

The National Research Council Transportation Research Board Noise Committee ADC40 looks at transportation-related noise and vibration and evaluates alternative strategies and control techniques for reducing noise and vibration levels and for evaluating their environmental impact.

Air Conditioning Heating and Refrigeration Institute (AHRI) Standards for the testing, measurement and rating of the performance of equipment.

The Facilities Guideline Institute provides guidelines including acoustics for healthcare and senior residential facililties.
